WHAT IS SPORTS MASSAGE AND HOW CAN IT HELP YOU?
Sports massage is the management, manipulation, rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons and ligaments.
A sports massage is for everyone...the sporty and non-sporty alike or those who are suffering from general muscle aches and pains such as office workers who suffer from a build up of stress and tension. This type of massage assists in the treatment of injuries and helps to improve the health of the muscle tissue which is surrounded by supporting and protecting bands of fibrous connective tissue called fascia.
Regular sport massages are recommended in order to boost your mobility and muscle recovery plus to help improve your posture. The use of Sports tape can be used to help maintain posture in between treatments.
SPINAL MANIPULATION

I am also trained in OMT Spinal Manipulation Therapy which is a therapeutic procedure applied to patients to restore normal movement. It involves taking the joint past its normal end range of motion but not past its anatomical end range of motion.
SOFT TISSUE RELEASE

Soft Tissue Release (STR) is a technique used to help restore normal flexibility to a muscle. It is particularly useful when a muscle becomes very tense and shortened. STR is often used after a muscle has been warmed up with lighter techniques such as ‘effleurage’ which is a form of massage which involves a repeated circular stroking movement made with the palm of the hand.
TRIGGER POINT THERAPY

Trigger points are involuntary tight tender spots in a contracted muscle. This creates pain and discomfort within the muscle. This can cause decreased circulation, increased muscle contraction, spasm and increased nerve sensitivity causing a sharp pain or constant ache. They can also cause referred pain in other parts of the body. Trigger point therapy aims to address the problem by applying pressure to the trigger point for at least 10 seconds which then interrupts the pain-spasm cycle which stops the
contraction, making the pain go away.
ROCK POD THERAPY

Also known as ‘Myofascial Cupping’ whereby you manipulate the fascia anywhere on the body to treat pain, mobility and movement dysfunction. This therapy also works to improve circulation.
SYMPTOM REDUCTION TAPING (SRT)

Taping can be used for a number of reasons...it helps performance and recovery in athletes from repetitive training and helps reduce aches and pains in joints and muscles from day to day activities. Taping is not just for athletes but has a wider use in health care, especially for those struggling with arthritis and joint pain or poor posture.
